These natural stone looks are costly and require more upkeep than patterned or stamped concrete, therefore making stamped concrete much more appealing economically, as well as being able to still achieve that desired look.
Because concrete is the most popular choice for driveways, courtyards, and patios, stamped concrete is a popular application which cost less than traditional methods.

We have allot of clients request a stamped patterns for their driveway, patios, or sidewalks. Here in Calgary living so close to the rocky mountains the stamped finish seems to suit the houses here in Canada.
This decorative surface finish is achieved after the first trowel on the recently placed concrete slab. Once the concrete has reached a firm enough state the stamping process begins.

The concrete contractors will work in usually a 2-3 man team (depending on the size of the job). They will use rubber stamped mats in unison to lay out a unique stamped pattern. As they do this they stamp down on the rubber mats leaved the desired imprint pressed into the concrete.

It is important to note that a release must be used in between the rubber mats and the concrete (either liquid or powered), this will help prevent pealing and sticking the mats.

The concrete job is usually saw cut the day for expansion joints as well as concrete sealer applied.
